What is a Finishing Spray!?

Setting sprays are fairly new in the make-up world and after some trial and error, I've chosen two products that I constantly go back to! I can't think of any reason for you to not love setting sprays because it's purpose is to ensure your makeup stays intact for hours to come. They were originally invented for Hollywood but as companies caught on to the trend, there are now a huge selection for you to choose from.

I love Mario Badescu's Rosewater Facial Spray and Urban Decay's All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray for separate reasons so if both somehow merged into one product, it would be my holy grail. Until then, I'll be sticking to these for a while.

Mario Badescu's Rosewater Facial Spray is gentle, non-irritating, and a lot more refreshing than Urban Decay's. Because it is rose scented, spraying this on your face is an instant pick-me-up. After I'm done applying my makeup, I'll do 2-3 sprays on my face. The lasting power isn't as great as Urban Decay's but I really enjoy how you right away feel awake all of a sudden. The thing I love the most about this is you technically can use this even if you're not wearing any makeup! If you're feeling tired mid-day or your skin feels dehydrated, spray some on your face and you'll be instantly rejuvenated. Because of this feature, I have a travel sized one that lives in my purse to use throughout the day. The formular consists of rosewater, aloe, and herbal extracts, which is the science behind the refreshment. I find myself needing a touch up in 3-4 hours, which I don't mind since I love the scent and instance of a pick-me-up so much.

Urban Decay's All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray has a longer staying power than Mario Badescu's but it's not as refreshing. This setting spray does prolong your makeup to last a few extra hours but that doesn't mean you can skip out on your finishing powder and lipstick to do touch-ups because let's be honest, this isn't a miracle worker. I don't think there is anything on the market that can promise you a setting spray strong enough for you to leave your touch-up products at home. I find myself not needing to touch up for 6-8 hours, which is pretty good given that I have oily skin that tends to melt my foundation off. The science behind it is the formula lowers the temperature of your makeup so even though it's hot and humid, your makeup won't melt or fade. The only downside is there is no reason to use this if you're not wearing makeup compared to Mario Badescu. This spray has no sent and doesn't feel refreshing at all so it's only purpose is to set your makeup. Because of this feature, this product tends to live on my vanity - it doesn't help to wake me up mid-day.

All in all, both setting sprays have become staples in my routine - it's hard to believe nobody thought of this concept sooner. Now, if only these two products combined, I'd be set.

  1. I have never used a finishing spray as I don't wear a lot of makeup. But these products seem really nice :)

    1. I definitely recommend the rosewater spray even if you don't wear makeup that often! It's perfect for mid-day skin hydration as well.

  3. I have tried both of these and if I were going to repurchase one, I think I'd go for the rosewater spray. I love setting sprays just to help melt makeup into my skin, and didn't find the UD one to help my makeup last a whole lot longer for the price. Nice post!

    1. Glad to hear you love Mario Badescu's Rosewater Spray! I especially love it's multipurpose use over the Urban Decay's.

  4. I have tried both of these but would repurchase the rosewater one out of the two. I love the way it helps my makeup melt into the skin and un-cake things. The UD one didn't do as much as I'd hoped in terms of staying power, at least for the price. Have you tried Nyx's setting sprays?

    1. I haven't tried NYX's setting spray or even had any idea they made one but I bet it works because I love NYX! It's a great, high-quality drug brand. If you tried it, I'd love to hear your opinion on it :)
