Words can't explain how much I love my Yves Saint Laurent lipstick! The formula is amazing, the pigmentation is strong, and don't even get me started with the packaging. It took me a while to purchase my first Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine because it was hard to justify a $35 lipstick. I bought #3, named Violet Incognito since I love dark colors and this is my most prized lipstick in my entire collection!
Let's start with the breathtaking packaging that I can't get enough of! It's all gold, which feels so luxurious and it's accented with the color of the lipstick. I think this is a great idea because you can see what color the lipstick is before popping off the top. The color accent is an idea Mac Cosmetics should look into because let's be honest, we all own a few of those babies and because it's all black (minus the limited edition ones,) it's hard to tell what color is which, so I really appreciate the design on the YSL lipsticks. The middle of the lipstick has the intricate details of the YSL logo so it ties the gold look together. Not only is the lipstick beautiful to use, it's also great to stare at when it's sitting on your vanity.
Next, the smell. So refreshing! I love it when lip products have a scent because it bring me back to the 90's and idea of Lip Smackers again. I'm not sure if all of the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine smell differently depending on color, but this one smells like fresh berries. When a lipstick goes to the next level to appeal to senses beyond the norm, I end up falling in love with the product so much more!
Last, and most important, the formula. The application of the lipstick feels so luxurious - it glides on smooth and the color is very pigmented. The reason why it feels unbelievably smooth is because it's a melting formula, rather than a solid stick like normal lipsticks, thus creating the smoother and lightweight feel. Although it's lightweight, the color is by no means under-pigmented - it can get richer to your liking with multiple applications. Something else I love most is the hydration the formula provides - I tend to reach for matte colors often, which are on the dryer side so the burst of hydration with YSL was refreshing. YSL says the formula of the lipstick is "enhanced with fruit extracts rich in vitamins and antioxidants that leave lips visibly softer and smoother with up to eight hours of hydration," which I stand by. The color doesn't last for eight hours but the hydration definitely does.
My one complain of the YSL lipstick line is they don't come in a lot of dark colors, which is more of my style. Don't get me wrong, their pink and nude colored lipsticks are very beautiful - I personally reach for darker colors more regardless of the season. I want to say 80% of my lipstick collection consists of dark colors.
I'd love to hear your favorite Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine colors because I am in the market for more!
